Week 3 Term 3

I have not had a good week this week with it raining, missing the bus and tons of other things. But I have finished my speech and I am ready to read it out to the class next week. I am the eighth on the list but I hope I get to the team finals I will post my speech. On Wednesday I had the Waikato/BOP schools Duathlon where I placed 9th out of 14. Last weekend our Waikato hockey team had a competition with 2 games on Saturday and Sunday. Where we lost to Auckland, but won against Counties Manakau, Thames valley another Auckland team and another team that I forgot. But in the end we came third equal!!

Pushy Parents

There is 5 min to go, and it is 3 all. The ball is out the left with Katie, and were all ready to score. But imagine this… You're in the zone about to shoot or score a try, but you miss, how do your  parents react? Well… Parent 1: Nice try, you’ll get em next time, Keep it up! Or Parent 2: What were you thinking you should have passed it, I told you you needed more practice. You should be ashamed! I mean we all have parents that love to see us achieve and support us to do so, but when have they gone too far? So are our parents pushing us as children too hard in our chosen sport, and is it affecting our performance and the outcome?

There is both positive and negative affects to any situation, but how negative can they get? Well... we all like the feeling of going up on the podium to have your medal presented to you, or raising the cup for your team, and I mean we can't really do it without our parents. But there is somethings that our parents should leave to us (the experts) Having your parents there pushing you to get outside and kick the ball around helps you to achieve your goal of winning the tournament and being able to hold the glory, (Oh and of course it gives you bragging rights) but it is also very special for your parents because they feel proud. But sometimes that going outside just to kick the ball around has gone too far, and comes with too many negative affects.

Well lets go back to Parent 2; having someone like parent 2 in your family can lead to Impacting your emotional development and self esteem, damaging the bond between you and your parent, and it can even make you look negatively at sports and you will want to give up, letting the team and yourself down. Honestly I think parents are just chasing their lost dreams through us, but at the same time ruining our dreams by obsessing about winning. And the thing that gets us down is when they say “Tom you have to win this race no matter what” This puts you under pressure and you take it on thinking that you will definitely win, but if you lose to you it seems like the whole sky has just landed on your head and the world is crumbling down around you. Then you feel like you have let your parents down and you take it out on yourself thinking it is all your fault and you will want to give up!

Though We can't argue, there is two opinions in this argument. I mean us kids don't always mind a helping hand, and sometimes we really do need it, but when they get  over involved in something, everything, and I mean everything goes straight down hill! When a parent takes over our sport it we lose desire for it but we only participate to keep our parents happy.  What I personally get really annoyed about it when you have done lots of training at school for your school athletics and you're ready to go and you can't wait for it to start. But then out the corner of your eye you see this waving had in the distance and your heart drops. So you're at the start line and the clappers go and all you can hear is that one call from your parents and your dignity is gone just like that! I don't get it, why do parents have to come watch, all they do is embarrass us! Just remembering we can't complain too much because if it weren't for our parents we wouldn't be doing sport at all, they pay for us to go, they drive us there (most of the time) Sometimes I can see where they are coming from because they love the feeling of being proud of us but to also know that not just us have achieved but them in a way that they know that they are a good parent. Parents don't just push us so they can feel good but they do it for us, so that when we go on the field it's not like we don't know how to pass and so we don't get even more embarrassed. But over all parents know what it is like to be kids and the know what it's like to feel embarrassed so they only try to do their best for us so we can have that special moment and know what it's like to achieve.

Luckily for me I don't have pushy parents. But overall I think parents only try to do the right thing (most of the time) but sometimes they just need to let loose a few strings and leave it up to us. Though they do embarrass us remember that we will have that chance one day too. So do you think parents are pushing us as children too hard in our chosen sport and is it affecting our performance and the outcome? You decide!

week 2 term 3

It has been a pretty crazy week this week! On Sunday I had my last trial to see if I got into the Waikato hockey team, Either A or B. I then had to wait till Tuesday for any news. Monday was just another day at school with the assembly where I received my medals from  the North Island Road and Track Champs, where I placed First in the road race, scratch, points and derby, and a second in the criterium. Tuesday I had music for tech and I found out I got into B team for Waikato hockey!! Wednesday was all the same as usual. Today; I have guitar, choir and the college expo and my first training in the afternoon for Waikato hockey where I will receive my uniform. This weekend I have a tournament where I will play four games for Waikato Hockey B. I am really excited!

last day of term 2

I has been a long time since I have posted because of production. Production went really well, and i'm really happy with my achievement. We had a couple of little mishaps but we covered up and you couldn't notice at all. I also did the duathlon at lake Karapiro with rain as my runner. We came second in the year eight girls and we were very happy. I also competed in the Waikato/BOP girls indoor bowls, getting 12th out of 40 teams. I got chosen by the kiwi sport people to represent the school, which is really cool because I get another badge.

Week 4 & 5

Well, you could say that the past week and a half has been yet exciting and fun!  I will start off half way through the last week. Wednesday, I went to the Paterangi Waikato/BOP Schools 10km Time Trial. I worked really hard in the race competing against nine others, then sprinting out at the end to gain second place by one second. I was really happy with my result, but next time first place is mine!
We have also been writing a memoir, Mine is about my New Zealand National Track Champs Races at the start of this year. Here it is.
Now it's race time

Throwing me into the zone, momentum and speed sets my mind and body for the race ahead. Should I make the break? Will I know when to go? Cheering and clapping surrounds The Dome. My ears prick up as I hear the whistle, then the call, and it’s my turn to take the lead. The heat from the hot sweaty people, both racing or not, is overwhelming. High speed and spinning legs takes over my body. Now it is race time! Bars bumping and wheels rub, as the crowd screams uncontrollably for their team. I feel the radiation of the same pain and determination that every other rider feels. My head screams keep going, but my body hanging only by a piece of thread ready. The slick surface is lost in the forest of black rubber and sweaty bodies, as I raise up and over to gain the lead. In pain, my legs suffer for one more lap. ‘Not far to go now,’ I remind myself. My head, set on first place. That medal will be mine. Then the unimaginable happens, as everyone racing drops.

Week 3

This week the shine wall out the front of our school was finished, I really like how it looks like the wall has been smashed and the painting is in the background, but there is people standing in the shadows. We have been doing science and we have made soaps and also learnt how to filter salt water so that we could drink it. I have been very bust in class because last week I had band and choir camp where I participated In choir.I was in choir, we had to learn 12 songs in two days and then perform them with the band and drum line, meaning I had to catch up on a lot of work. Also this week the whole school did PC (Pubertal change)

Here is a picture of the Shine wall.

Week 1 Term 2

It has been great to get started back at school, we have summer games this Friday, we are starting Japanese next week plus lots more. Over the holidays I entered two cycling competitions, The GIB tour in Te Awamutu/Korikanui, and the New Zealand Road Nationals in Napier, Hawkes Bay. The GIB had three races. A 9km Time Trial a 28km race and a 36km. And for the NZ Nationals  we only had two races, A 15km Time trial and a 26km race.
We now have science on Tuesdays and Fridays, we have just been learning about Atoms, Molecules, Particles, Matter, the Periodic table/Gases,Liquids and Solids.
But last of all I really like the new SHINE painting on the wall as you come into school.

ONCE UPON A CRIME

This is my ONTV video that our group made on camp. "Once Upon A Crime"

Wellington Camp

Last week my class went to Wellington, we all enjoyed it but I think next time taking cars would be a better idea!! We left on Sunday and came back on Friday, but it took seven and a half hours to travel there (one way!)

ONTV: Once Upon A Crime
This was my favourite thing over the whole camp. I really enjoy acting, as I was Gretel and The
Beast. I did muck up a few times but it didn't matter, lets just say not everyone did everything perfect. I liked my two costumes I wore, firstly I was Gretel and I wore a navy blue singlet Jump suit with white polka dots and little white cardigan with frills around the edges, I also had my hair up in pigtails. For the Beast I wore black pants, a green and blue tie, a suit jacket with shoulder pads and a big brown wig. To see the clip go to: ontvNZ the look for Te Awamutu Intermediate.

Media:
In the media lab we learnt to make apps, Firstly we made a cat app. We had to learn about putting the button on ,so when you touch the button/picture it makes a sound. Then we put the sound button, then the title. After learning all that we went back and did it for ourselves, but that wasn't all. We had to put the picture into the blocks, then the cat sound, then finally link everything together. And nor was that the last thing, we then had to transfer the app on to the phones we were given to make sure the app worked, and that was the final step. We then made two other apps that were a little more complicated.

Snorkeling/Aquarium:
We went snorkeling at Island Bay Marine Reserve, we went in pairs with an adult. I went with Kylie and her dad. We saw some snake stars, they are a type of starfish that has a little round body and five long skinny legs that look like little snakes, hence the name. After the cold long snorkel we went to the Island bay Marine Reserve Aquarium. We got to touch and hold lots of shells, starfish, kina and lots of other things, we even go to touch and see a octopus get fed! And just as we were about to feed the octopus its dinner it sucked in lots of water and squirted it in Mrs Crowe’s face!!!

Pools:
I also really enjoyed the pools, there was two hydro slides, a wave pool, a giant/steep slide in the water and a river ride.

And these were only some of the activities we did, lets just say it was a really fun and enjoyable camp with too much to do.

My Japanese Student

This week my Japanese student arrived at school, her name is Saki. She had a ten hour and fifty minute flight. She showed me pictures of her food and she ate Bacon, eggs and fruit salad for breakfast. Then she had chicken, mashed potato and hot chips. when we picked her up from school we went home and had some afternoon tea, then she gave gave each of us a gift, She gave us a packet of chopsticks, a traditional game they play around new years, a traditional fan each. She gave my sister and I a little packet of sticky notes that had mountains from all over japan, a origami kit about all the celebrations they have in japan. She also made a book about her family and where she lives. I can't wait do do other things with her.

Portrait poem

I am Mya
Daughter of Michael and Karin
Sibling of Keisha
Who needs a bike, and a helmet to survive
Who loves her family, track cycling and chocolate
Who sees her future as a track cyclist
Who hates arrogance, self doubt and people that don’t smile
Who fears failure and crashing on her bike
Who dreams of becoming part of the NZ track cycling team
Who will stay strong no matter what gets in her way

Week 4

This week has been alright but I have not been at school that often because on Thursday last week we were playing softball at school and I pitched the ball and and caught the ball funny so I fractured my pinkey and chipped a bit off the nuckle so now I have to be carefully not to bump it so I can ride for nationals. But otherwise I can't wait to trial for production, my goal is to say at least one line in production. Hopefully I get this since I did not get house captain.

Week Three

This week has not been the best week for me Though I am really excited for the reason I got into the nationals for Waikato for two races out of four, and that means a whole lot more training. But I am really down that I did not achieve my goal of getting House captain or Head student, So this year I have set my new goal of getting the student of the year, and getting at least seventh for the nationals in one of my races.
